You are what you eat!

food face One of the down sides to the amount of exercise that Andy has been doing throughout his training is that he's in danger of being permanently hungry!

With the level of fitness that Andy's been trying to achieve it's been important for him to have the right balance of nutrition and fluids.  An average guy of his height and weight should be looking to take in a daily calorie allowance of around 2,500 Kcal.  Boxing eats through calories at an amazing 1035 calories per hour.  Combine that with 518 calories being lost through an hour of weight training and a further 690 calories spent on sit-ups and press-ups and with all that exertion, you need plenty of carbs and protein to keep you going.

Andy is unable to eat foods with gluten in them so that means having to say no to pasta, bread, pastry, biscuits, some sauces or anything else made with flour.

Alcohol too has been restricted and regular tea and coffee have been replaced by Green Tea or Camomile Tea.

To counter the extremes of his training regime, Andy has been ensuring that hebalanced diet eats plenty of protein.  Not only does this help with the development and repair of muscle tone but also helps him not to feel hungry quite so quickly.  For those of you who've ever tried the Atkins diet, you'll know that when you eat foods that are high in protein, like fish, chicken, nuts and eggs, it helps you to feel fuller for longer.

Andy uses Maximuscle products to help him monitor and maintain his dietary needs.  He mixes Maximuscle Promax powder into a protein-shake to boost his protein intake between meals.  Similarly, a Maximuscle meal supplement bar adds precious nutrients to help Andy cope with the rigours of training.

If, like Andy, you train really hard you'll know that you sweat a lot too.  To keep his fluid levels balanced, Andy will drink between 4 and 6 litres of water a day depending on his training schedule and that's not including cups of Green Tea!

Becoming 'The Saint' has had plenty of challenges for Andy but he's shown he has the commitment, determination and will-power to succeed.

Support The Saint"s Charity

Andy 'The Saint' Sayers supports Friends of English Martyrs.

This charity supports a very small rural school in Oakham, Rutland. English Martyrs Catholic Primary School endorses a policy of ‘Every Child Matters’ throughout the school allowing children of all Faiths, Ethnic backgrounds and Abilities to participate fully in a warm, loving and accepting school environment.

Friends of English Martyrs are a group of volunteer parents who work tirelessly to keep this amazing school open and help provide specialist equipment and resources for all the children.
The charity supports disadvantaged children and their families and helps to pay for cultural, social and educational experiences that they would otherwise be unable to benefit from.
